It presents exhibits and over 200 performances, concerts, festivals, workshops, lectures and other events per year. The Bath House Cultural Center is the first of six neighborhood cultural centers built and operated by the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs. It is located on the east shore of White Rock Lake in east Dallas, Texas (USA). The Bath House remained a social and recreational hot spot for over two decades, but was forced to close in 1953 when swimming in White Rock Lake was discontinued. The majestic building sat vacant until 1978 when, urged and supported by a dedicated group of neighborhood arts activists, the City of Dallas announced plans to restore the building.

The partnership between the cultural center and Mr. Vargas has become a consistent and anticipated event in the local arts scene. In 2024, El Corazón continues its tradition of providing a platform for artists to showcase their work and engage with a diverse audience. The exhibition is a testament to the rich artistic landscape of the region, fostering community and creativity among participants. As stated by the Curators, “Through our series of exhibitions titled Son de Allá y Son de Acá, our goal is to bring awareness to the Chicano/a and Latino/a creatives living and working in underrepresented and marginalized areas. We aim to bridge art communities, create awareness of new voices, foster communication, increase opportunities, and expand our understanding socially, culturally, and historically between artists across state borders. This cross-border exchange highlights the shared historical and socio-political ties between states within the U.S.-American Southwest, predating the Spanish conquest to current complexities at the U.S.-Mexico border.
The exhibition features emerging and well-established artists in drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, fiber, action figures, sculpture, and performance. It reveals the impact of place in shaping the identity and practice of artists working in landscapes with deeply shared histories while uncovering the common threads and examining the similarities of parallel narratives, cultures, and heritage. The Bath House Cultural Center’s art galleries showcase artists from Dallas and all over the world.
What We Support
Our individual and philanthropic involvement rewards, incubates and benefits emerging and established artists. Through our conservancy funding of this landmark building, we have created warm, vibrant and inviting spaces that make the creative arts approachable to all who visit, encouraging conversation, exploration and enjoyment. The former Lincoln Street Bath House is one of just four municipal bath houses still standing in Chicago. The city built 19 public bath houses between 1894 and 1918 because indoor plumbing and bathing facilities were not common in urban dwellings at the time.

The festival serves as a showcase for various Dallas independent theatres without a permanent home and has become a signature event for the Bath House Cultural Center. "People are getting more and more interested in Japanese culture," says Executive Director Kazumi Teune. "Our mission is to share the Japanese culture in Philadelphia. People are embracing shogun culture, anime, samurai, sake and it's all here. Throughout the year we have programs that celebrate the Japanese culture." "The setting, the architecture, it's all there to convey a sense of feeling," Polyakov says. "The idea of peace and emptiness and quiet beauty were very important in 16th-century Japan. These traditions have carried on for hundreds of years, including today."
Through advocacy, fundraising, and individual commitment, the Friends of the Bath House Cultural Center encourages the flourishing of the Bath House while enriching the visitor experience.
